The refugees are interested in learning Romanian language

 On April 8, 2011, at Free International University o Moldova (ULIM) there was held a ceremony of handing over the certificates of attendance to a group of Romanian language learners within the refugee and asylum seeking community in the Republic of Moldova.

Lessons were organized within the Local integration Project, with the financial support of European Union, implemented and co-financed by UNHCR Moldova.

Mr. Peter Kessler, UNHCR representative, said that "the project was initiated to facilitate integration of refugees in local society" as one of the priorities of UNHCR in recent years. "Congrats with the occasion of learning a new language, hope you will apply this knowledge in daily life in relationships with people around you."

During the ceremony Professor Natalia Turcan, a lecturer at ULIM, said that the experience in dealing with this category of people is a novel. "My students are from different countries and have different cultures, so I was interested to understand their way of thought perception and appropriation by them of the material taught. I am pleased that we completed the course and my students from now on will feel free in communication and make progress in applying this knowledge", said Turcan.

The 14 refugees, including five minors who are studying in schools in the capital, are also satisfied that they had the opportunity of studying Romanian language and appreciated the efforts of financing institutions, ULIM and non-governmental organizations that come always to support them. Refugees brought words of thanks in particular to the teacher N.Ţurcanu, that became also a good friend for them.

"I'm a sociable person and I want to get in contact with the local population, but this is only possible if you know Romanian. I have a son who studies at a Romanian-language school and often helps me because he knows it better. I'm in Moldova for eight years and never want to leave this place. I like the people here - they are kind and responsive to the needs of others, so it's necessary and I want to know the language they speak” - these are testimonials of Ms. Ruzana Michaelyan, a refugee from Armenia, drawn from the discussion we had after which she received the certificate. "Knowledge of the Romanian language it is especially needed because we follow to become citizens of Moldova" – also said the refugee.

Mr. Gerhard Ohrband, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, ULIM, said that the completion of the course is a great  achievement for UNHCR, ULIM and for refugees which expressed their desire to learn the language of the host country. "While the Romanian language is very far from your native language, as refugees in Moldova, you managed to learn it very successfully and I congratulate you for your efforts, "said Ohrband,  and for those who wish to continue studying the Romanian language has come up with the advice to "do it also at ULIM because we are willing to help you."

Moldova has signed the United Nation Convention on Refugees, through which is committed to provide the necessary assistance to this category of people. In this respect, the European Union provide the necessary support including funding the project "Local integration of refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine", implemented and financed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The main project objective is to support the governments of three countries in meeting the obligations assumed under the 1951 Convention on refugee by strengthening their capacities and improve prospects for international protection of refugee integration in all three countries.

The event was also attended by Ms. Svetlana JIOARĂ, programs associate UNHCR; Djavid Paknehad, Director and Project Coordinator at the Charity Center for Refugees; Dumitru MAXIM, Project Coordinator, Society for Refugees; students-journalists.

Refugiaţii sunt interesaţi de studierea limbii române 

Pe data de 8 aprilie 2011, în incinta Universităţii Libere Interanţionale din Moldova (ULIM) a avut loc ceremonia de înmînare a certificatelor de frecventare a cursurilor limbii române unui grup de refugiaţi şi solicitanţi de azil în R.Moldova. 

Lecţiile au fost organizate în cadrul Proiectului „Integrarea locală a refugiaţilor în Belarus, Moldova şi Ucraina", în perioada octombrie 2009 – martie 2011, cu sprijinul financiar al Uniunii Europene,impelementat şi co-finanţat de Reprezentanţa Înaltului Comisariat al Naţiunilor Unite pentru Refugiati (ICNUR) în Moldova.

Dl Peter Kessler, Reprezentantul ICNUR, a menţionat că „proiectul a fost iniţiat cu scopul facilitării procesului de integrare a refugiaţilor în societatea locală" aceasta fiind una din priorităţile ICNUR în ultimul timp. „Vă felicitit cu ocazia însuşirii încă a unei limbi, fie şi la nivel de comunicare, şi sper să aplicaţi cunoştinţele în viaţa de zi cu zi în relaţiile cu persoanele care vă înconjoară“.

În cadrul ceremoniei profesoara Natalia Ţurcanu, lector la ULIM, a menţionat că experianţa în relaţiile cu această categorie de persoane este una inedită. “Studenţii mei sunt din diferite ţări şi împărtăşesc diverse culturi, de aceea mi-a fost interesant să înţeleg modul de gîndire, percepere şi însuşire, de către ei, a materialului predat. Sunt bucuroasă că am finalizat cursul şi că de acum încolo studenţii mei se vor simţi mai liberi în comunicare şi vor progresa în acest sens aplicînd cunoştinţele acumulate“, a declarat Ţurcanu. 

Cei 14 refugiaţi, dintre care 5 minori care îşi fac studiile în şcolile din capitală, la fel s-au arătat mulţumiţi de faptul că au avut posibilitatea de a studia limba română şi au apreciat eforturile instituţiilor finanţatoare, ULIM şi non-guvernamentale care le vin mereu în sprijin. Refugiaţii au adus cuvînte de mulţumire în special profesoarei N.Ţurcanu, care le-a devenit şi un bun prieten.

“Sunt un om sociabil şi vreau să intru în contact cu populaţia băştinaşă, dar acest lucru e posibil doar dacă cunoşti limba română. Am un fiu care îşi face studiile la o şcoală cu predare în limba română şi deseori mă ajută pentru că el o cunoaşte mai bine. Sunt în Moldova de opt ani şi nu mai vreau să plec de aici. Îmi plac oamenii de aici - sunt binevoitori şi receptivi la nevoile celorlalţi, de aceea e necesar şi vreau să cunosc limba în care vorbesc ei” – acestea sunt mărturisirile dnei Ruzana Michaelyan, refugiată din Armenia, desprinse din discuţia pe care am avut-o după ce şi-a primit certificatul. “Cunoaşterea limbii române e necesară mai cu seamă că urmează să devenim şi cetăţeni ai R.Moldova“ – a mai spus refugiata.
