On 19 September 2015, an
excursion to Old Orhei (Orheiul Vechi) for newly arrived refugees and asylum
seekers was organized by the Charity Centre for Refugees in cooperation with
UNHCR Moldova and the Ministry of Culture RM. The main objective of the trip
was to familiarize persons of concern with historic and architectural complex,
as well as to recount culture and fortunes of the people who used to reside in
this part of Moldova.
The acquaintance with the
history began in the museum of archeological excavations containing traces of
different civilizations dating from Paleolithic age. Continuing the trip, together
with the guide refugees visited an old Moldavian museum house located near the
Orheiul Vechi Monastery. The house included ethnic costumes and old household tools
which shared a nice opportunity to admire the life of Moldavian peasants.
After the museum tour, refugees
visited the last historical sight – the Orheiul Vechi Monastery complex built
inside the cliff by Orthodox monks dated from the 13th century. Nobody
was left indifferent by the life which monks spent dedicated to God in the
cliff. It was a moment of rest surrounded by
nature, silence and autumn.
At the end of
the tour, beneficiaries thanked the guide for the unforgettable impressions
from a wonderful day, good mood, and an opportunity to learn more about Republic
of Moldova, its history, and the people, who lived during those times and who
created and preserved the greatest creations till present days.
